2008 HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH CELEBRATION

Saturday, September 13th
2nd Annual Latino American Festival
10AM – 9PM, Hanna Park, Utica NY (Click here for directions)
Join us as we kick-off Hispanic Heritage Month! Enjoy Latino and American foods, performances by local Ritmo Caribeño’s Children Latino Dance group, Rising Styles Crew (free style break dancing), Just A Little Project dance group, and music by Son Boricua (salsa, merengue and bachata), the Headband (American rock), La Familia de la Salsa, and Ruben Montalvo (Caribbean singing). There will also be a variety of children’s activities, storytelling, bouncy house, raffles, vendors and human service agencies information available.

Latino Movie Nights
6PM, Utica Public Library, Utica NY
Stop by the Utica Public Library every Monday night during Hispanic Heritage Month to check out some of the Latino’s most renowned films. Admission is free and snack and beverages will be provided. For the complete film schedule, please contact the MVLA office.

Spanish & English Storytelling
12-3PM, Utica Public Library (Children’s Room)
Visit special guests, Laura the Explorer, Roberto the Building and Lorenzo the cucumber, for storytelling at the Utica Public Library in both Spanish and English translations. The YWCA will also present the “Helping Hands” Program to the children. Admission is free. To sign your children up for this special event, please contact the MVLA office.

Hip Hop, Salsa and Merengue Dance Class Workshop *FREE*

Master the Latin moves of dance from 5:30-6:30, Hip-Hop for Children Ages, 5-18, and from 6:30-7:30, Salsa and Merengue for adults. The dance lessons are FREE but dancers must register prior to the classes.

Elections
Annually, at least 30 days prior to the date set for election of directors, the Board acting, as a body shall select names for consideration as nominees to fill the class then expiring.
No member whose name is being thus considered for election shall have the power to vote in any such election. The persons receiving the largest number of votes shall prevail.
ELECTION FOR THE ABOVE POSITIONS WILL BE HELD AT THE ANNUAL SEPETEMBER 2008 BOARD MEETING.
Section 3: The Nomination Committee shall record names for the incoming class of directors. Candidates for Board positions shall be submitted for consideration during a regular scheduled Board meeting.
Before proceeding to an election, the President should inquire if there are any further nominations. If there is no response, he/she declares the nomination closed It is customary to make a motion to close nominations, but until a reasonable time has been given, this motion is not in order. If for any reason it is desired to reopen nominations, it may be done by a majority vote.
PLEASE SUBMIT ALL NOMINATIONS TO THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE IN WRITING OR VIA THE WEBSITE BY END OF BUSINESS DAY, AUGUST 31, 2008.
